I go out for a morning walk and see overflowing drains stinking and becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes. To avoid it, I cross the road and complete my walk. After getting ready, I enter a lift and go to the basement parking but there too, I am greeted by overflowing drains, strong foul smell, rats and breeding mosquitoes.
After returning from office, I sit in my balcony for a cup of hot coffee seeing children play in the swing area but that is close to the overflowing drains. This is a typical day in AOH.A few residents believe that our problem gets multiplied because of rains but we must accept the fact that our drainage system is going from bad to worse.
Also, our STP is out of service for a long time. Even after spending so much. Further, big trash cans outside a few towers have increased the stench. Earlier too, these trash cans were kept but selected days for picking dry waste may have created a problem.
Lastly, old and rusted pipes have resulted in overflowing of wastewater.
Many steps have been taken for drains to join the main naali so that the former do not overflow. Steps like extending the naali towards commercial and connecting the drains to the opposite side, in the process making huge speed breakers outside commercial, but a few in fluential residents of the opposite sector stopped the work.
Then, it was decided to make the drainage system move towards SHO office, but I do not know the status of that. It is sad that such a big society must depend on a municipal corporation to clean its drains from time to time.
We must appeal to the Noida Authority to have a permanent solution for our drainage system. We request the Housekeeping Committee to work with the System Improvement Committee to carve out our strategy for cleanliness and related systems.
We should use our legal team and connect our drain system with that of the opposite sector using the legal route. The Infrastructure and Electrical committees should come together and work so that the existing STP starts or a new STP set up.
In Noida, because of the gases emitted by the drains, all equipment must be serviced every year. I am already about to change my two air conditioners and a geyser. I hope Noida can go back in time and reclaim its reputation of being clean and green!
