Dr Richa Katiyar, IVF and Test Tube baby Specialist, is a Gold Medalist in MBBS and MD from the prestigious AIIMS. Recently, she organized a Free Health Checkup for women and explained the importance of routine checkups. In conversation with Dr Richa to discuss the relevance of Women’s Health.
Q. What was the purpose of the health checkup camp for women?
The purpose of the health checkup camp for women was to provide a dedicated platform for women to prioritize their well-being. Such camps aim to address specific health concerns and encourage preventive care among women. By offering various screenings, tests, and consultations, these camps promote early detection of health issues that are more prevalent in women. They also create a comfortable environment where women can openly discuss their health queries and receive expert advice. Additionally, these camps help bridge the gap in healthcare access, reaching out to those women who might have limited resources or face barriers in seeking medical attention. Ultimately, the goal is to empower women to take charge of their health, raise awareness about women’s unique health needs, and ensure that they receive timely medical attention.
Q. How many women come to you for a routine check? Do u think women give that much importance to their health?
The number of women seeking routine health checks vary greatly. While many women understand the importance of regular check-ups, some might prioritize other responsibilities over their health. Factors like busy schedules, lack of awareness, or fear of medical procedures can influence their decisions. However, there’s a growing emphasis on promoting women’s health awareness, preventive care, and the benefits of early detection. Encouraging women to prioritize their health through education, campaigns, and accessible healthcare services is essential to ensure they receive the care they deserve.
Q. There is very less awareness about Cervical Cancer and the presence of a preventive vaccine. Can women benefit from that vaccine?
Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that originates in the cells of the cervix, the lower part of the uterus. It’s primarily caused by persistent infections with certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). Despite being largely preventable and treatable when detected early, cervical cancer claims thousands of lives globally each year. The lack of awareness about cervical cancer can be attributed to societal taboos around discussing reproductive health, limited access to healthcare information, and inadequate sex education.
Women can benefit greatly from this vaccine, especially if administered before their first exposure to HPV, which is typically during adolescence or early adulthood. By raising awareness, promoting regular screenings, and encouraging vaccination, we can take crucial steps towards reducing the burden of cervical cancer and safeguarding women’s health.
Q. Any words of advice to women who ignore their health until they fall ill?
To women who prioritize everything else over their health, Remember, self-care isn’t selfish; it’s essential. Neglecting your well-being can lead to serious consequences. Just as you care for loved ones, prioritize caring for yourself. Regular check-ups, proper nutrition, and exercise are investments in your long-term vitality. Remember, prevention is easier than cure. Your health matters and making time for it now can prevent future hardships. Embrace self-care as a lifelong commitment, and you’ll empower yourself to lead a healthier, happier life.
