Residents of Noida Sector-39 have been struggling with a severe crisis due to overflowing drains and sewerage for over a year. Despite repeated complaints and inspections, the Noida Authority has failed to provide a permanent solution to the problem. The situation is alarming, with sewerage water overflowing throughout the sector, causing unbearable bad odours and serious health threats. Mosquito breeding is on the rise, increasing the risk of diseases like dengue and malaria. Residents claim that instead of resolving the issue, sewerage water is being diverted into the main drainage system, worsening the problem. This is not only harmful to the environment but also blocks the local drainage system, creating a vicious cycle. The A-Block and H-Block residents are the worst affected, facing severe sewerage overflows and smelly water. The area has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects.
The root cause of the problem lies in Noida’s outdated sewer lines, which were not designed to handle the rapid population growth. The existing infrastructure is unable to cope with the increasing demand, resulting in frequent overflows. Replacing the existing pipes with larger ones seems to be the only viable solution. However, this requires collective action and sustained follow-up with the authorities. Residents must come together to demand a permanent solution to the problem. Sanitation workers point out that improper disposal of sanitary napkins, clothes, and plastic also contributes to the problem. The accumulation of sewer water in residential pipes poses a severe health hazard, potentially leading to serious ailments like gastroenteritis and pneumonia. Dr. GS Sachdeva, President of Sector 39 RWA, has demanded immediate action from the Noida Authority. He urges residents to unite and raise their voices to solve the problem together.
