Its a matter of immense pride and honour for DLF Phase 2 and the city of Gurgaon to have our co-resident, Dr Bakshi Ram Yadav, be conferred with India’s 4th highest civilian Award, the Padma Shri Awards announced on 25th January 2023 and to be honoured by the President of India. He is one of the 91 Padma Shri awardees and one of the two chosen ones from the state of Haryana.
Dr. Bakshi Ram, an agricultural scientist, has been selected for his lifetime achievements and groundbreaking research and development work in the field of the sugarcane sector. He is known as the developer of North India’s largest-growing sugarcane variety CO-0238. This crop variety dominates more than 84% production of sugarcane across Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh and over 54% across India. Ever since the crop launch, it has saved millions for the farmers, agricultural industry and the nation with improved and high crop yield.
He led the research team of scientists for this crop variety at the Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Regional Research Centre, The Indian Council of Agricultural Research at Karnal and launched this variant in 2009.
Recently retired as Director at ICAR Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore, he currently consults in several sugar mills and played a major role in the support and welfare of the sugarcane farmers.
He has received many awards and recognitions for his works in the field of science and his research at all the highest levels. He is recipient of Haryana Vigyan Ratna Award, US Awasthi IFFCO Award, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award by ICAR, and the prestigious National Academy of Agricultural Sciences Fellowship.
His wife Vijesh Yadav shared this exhilarating news with immense pride with the residents on a WhatsApp group. She said, “You are a true inspiration and a national treasure!! Congratulations on the lifetime achievement!! Nation is proud of you!! Very lucky and proud to be your wife ♥♥??”
