Last Month Samvada had written about the woes of Residents in the vicinity of Summer Fields School and how the Management of the school was turning a deaf ear to countless complaints by residents. The matter has been reported to the Police and MCD but no tangible solutions have been forthcoming. As reported last month, some action was taken by demolishing a few stairs at the Newly opened Gate No 4, but the Gate was not sealed. In a Tit for Tat action the RWA Boom Barrier was also demolished.
Last week Dr Angel Bhati Chauhan (DC South) MCD held a site inspection along with officials, SHO, SFS & Arya Samaj Management and RWAs of Kailash Colony and GK-I. In an effort to mislead SFS presented a vague Site Plan of School Premises, that hid more than it revealed. Arvind Kaila Office Bearer of RVKC was armed with A1 Size Google Map showing in complete detail all the Buildings, Sports Turfs etc.
SFS Staff was at pains to explain as to why they have covered all the vacant land with Sports Turf for Commercial Gains, a newly Constructed Building for a World School with a proposed strength of 1500 students and one more Management Institute on the erstwhile Summer Fields School that was originally allotted the Land for neighbourhood Community. Over the past decade or so the number of students has risen from 1200 to over 4000, with 1500 expected in the New World School.
Dr. Chauhan was apprised of all the problems being faced by residents during school opening and closing hours. Adding further to the woes is the subletting of Play Fields to a Private Event Company that runs Coaching Facilities and Tournaments till late in the Night. Dr. Chauhan enquired, why school management has not created infrastructure for Parking and offloading of children from Buses within the school boundary as per laid out guidelines?
After hearing both sides and the view of Police by SHO, Dr. Chauhan requested the school management to present a detailed plan of how they intend to decongest Colony roads by creating offloading and parking space within the school premises instead of using up Public Space. The school management further promised to ensure that the Event Company will not be allowed to use school premises beyond 7 pm.
Hopefully some fruitful solution comes out of this meeting and the unbridled expansion is contained and the Peace and Tranquility of the Residential Colony is restored. The RWA’s are committed to the cause and have decided that the matter shall be escalated to the Education Directorate.
