In an interview with his school friend Veenod Aggarwal (H.no.291)
We were in the same class in school and at times used to sit at the same desk, so interviewing him was not difficult – indeed a lot of fun.
Dr Ajay (H.no.124,9811021911) was born and brought up in Delhi in the University area. His father was from the MP cadre and worked in the Central Excise department. Due to his father’s government postings, Ajay did his early schooling up to the Eighth standard from St Joseph’s Gwalior and Carmel Convent Gwalior. After they moved to Delhi, he joined the Anglo Sanskrit School Daryaganj, Delhi.
At Anglo Sanskrit we had to wear a Gandhi topi (cap) to school. “It was a sort of cultural shock but at the same time one felt a sense of pride,” says Ajay. After school he did his pre-med from Ramjas and then joined Maulana Azad Medical College and did his MBBS in DLO (Diploma in Otolaryngology) and then obtained an MS in ENT.
After becoming a doctor, Ajay did his Residency from Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital. Later he joined Sir Ganga Ram Hospital as a junior consultant and continued working there for 38 years in various capacities.
Ajay married Gopi (a teacher at Apeejay School, Noida) in 1979. They have two daughters, Madhavi, a lawyer and Pallavi, a chef.“We moved into Sec 15A in 1986 and recall that there were only 5 families living in the Sector at the time. To begin with it was a mosquito-laden Sector and electricity used to go off for hours at a stretch. In two years, however, smart and well-connected people moved in and the Club, which is now the pride of not only the Sector but of Noida and the NCR, came up. Now the moment you say that you stay in 15A you are looked at with respect,” says Ajay.
“We have everything in the Sector – the layout is beautiful, greenery and camaraderie are par excellence and we have Samvada to give us the latest news and some gossip to liven up our lives, which otherwise would be just routine”, adds Ajay.
It is a matter of pride for Sector 15A that beginning this month Ajay was appointed Chairman (Board of Management) of this prestigious hospital. “I’m always available to help my fellow residents and can assure them that they will get the best and ethical medical care.”
