Mitigating fire hazards in high-rise societies the need of the hour
Recently, the videos of a fire incident in the residential high-rise apartment of Gaur City 14th avenue were doing the rounds on the Internet. The video clips showed huge flames billowing out of the house and also posing danger to the adjacent houses.
The reason for the same was that the occupants of the flat had lit the lamp at a prayer corner and the fire then spread to the second floor of the apartment as well.
Such hazardous incidents are quite common in the high-rise apartments. At times, they are caused by short circuits; on other occasions, they are caused by the negligence of the residents.
As the residents of such high-rise apartments, the onus of taking precautions also lies on us. While the society RWAs might do their best to prevent such incidents the inhabitants should do their bit as well. The common causes of fire incidents in the apartments can be through kitchen equipment, candles, smoking, incense sticks and faulty wiring. Some societies like Grand Omaxe carry out regular electrical inspection, which keeps the residents aware of the electrical wiring defaults. This might prevent the chances of short circuits Keeping fire extinguishers in place and regular testing and maintenance protocol is another way of combating any kind of untoward fire incident. Other ways of remaining vigilant can be by handling the electrical as well as kitchen appliances with care. Children should be taught not to think of the fire equipment as a plaything and the adults of the house should be watchful of their activities.
Watching ones abode going up in flames can be a nightmarish experience which can be prevented by remaining cautious.
