Incidents of dogs biting people, scratching, attacking, and causing harm to – in some scenarios helpless senior citizens and babies – people are not unheard of in DLF Phase 2. In fact over the past few months complaints of such incidents have been on the rise.
One of the major issues is the “Muzzled Dog” that I am sure you’re aware of, for those not familiar this is the ferocious muzzled dog of Central Arcade who has attacked, bit, and mauled multiple people in the past. This dog is a nuisance to the commuters of the market and tends to violently bark and go after at least one person every few days, sometimes this happens with the muzzle on and just causes a jump scare but if it ever happens with the muzzle off its an instant trip to the hospital for the victim. The shopkeepers and staff around where this dog mainly hangs find it entertaining and choose to laugh it out when someone is scared or hurt by the dog rather than being helpful. The Animal Welfare Board of India has strictly prohibited the muzzling of dogs as that prevents dogs from regulating their body temperatures properly. The dog needs to be taken to a rehabilitation facility.
Another such incident is one where stray dogs are getting on the cars of individuals and causing scratches, pulling off the rubber from their wipers amongst other things; but when the guards try to shoo them away the people who feed the dogs and pet them come in and tell them off for shooing them. A resident proposed a very nice idea where residents who do not have dogs, but are dog lovers and want to take care of these dogs can take them in by allowing the dogs a safe sheltered space while also preventing other residents from having to face issues like bites, attacks, damage to property amongst others.
These individuals and their love for the dogs is understood and respected, none of us want to harm the dogs or cause damage, but we also do not want to put up with any harm or damage they may cause to us, thus the dog lovers should think of solutions that help us keep both the dogs and the humans safe, rather than choosing a defensive stance we can all work together to make it a safe space for all.
