Twenty five enthusiastic men from DLF 2, all fond of walking, formed a group and named it Savera. Nearly 15 to 18 of them meet each morning and walk in the L 15 extension lane. Rain or sunshine, the spirit to meet and walk has not dampened their enthusiasm to meet each morning. During the monsoons they decided to build a canopy to get shelter; they had to run to the nearest construction sites if it rained while walking.
Initially, they decided to pool in money, but getting permission and taking up the work responsibility did not work out. Ex-councilors of MCG were approached as they have been instrumental in making gazebos in the parks and installing open-air gyms. Regretfully, MCG could not commit or help as the councilor elections were long overdue and funds were unavailable.
At this point, Vikas Thapar, a member of Savera group, took the responsibility of approaching DLF. Nitya Mohan (VP-DLF) Vikas shared photos and videos of the spot where the canopy was needed and briefed him about Savera Club. Nitya Mohan took an interest and sent a team from DLF to visit the site in July 2024. A NOC signed by the residents of Lane L 15 was the first thing that DLF requested before taking up the project. Once enough residents signed the NOC, DLF took up the charge of constructing the canopy, the first one by them.
Vikas was constantly in touch with Nitya Mohan and made sure the promise made was fulfilled. Once the work started, all the members of Savera Club were overjoyed and excited. Vikas shared the updates on the work being done and posted pictures and video to the members of Savera Club.
A raised platform was built to hold the canopy. Anil Yadav and his team did an excellent job of erecting the structure and giving it a shape. Extra benches were brought in with the help of Vinod Tayal and Ramesh Yadav. Akhil Bhardwaj helped by providing two granite tables. The team got T- shirts printed with a logo and name of the club for all the members. This was initiated by Kanwal Bhat.
By mid-November the canopy was ready. Vikas thanked Nitya Mohan and the team on behalf of Savera Club and its members for fulfilling the promise. This canopy has become a pit stop for many. Men, women, workers, staff and children are seen at different times of the day making most of the seating with a shade.
