Municipal Corporation of Gurugram fixes reservation seats for next elections
The Proposed New Ward delimitation for Gurugram, done last year has resulted in the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram administratively now divided into 36 wards which is two more than past records.
The new ward distribution has been done keeping an average population size of 40000 electoral votes in each ward. This is based on the records of earlier electoral lists and the new data from Parivar Pehchaan Patra (PPP)
The corporation elections which have been due since the last quarter of 2022 and awaiting new wardbandi, will hopefully be done in the coming few months.
A process of draw was held at the beginning of Jan 2024 to reserve seats across various wards at the office of District Commissioner Gurugram Nishant Singh Yadav in the presence of ADC Hitesh Kumar Meena and MCG Commissioner Vijay Yadav. As a result of this draw, 10 wards (Ward 2,12,15,18, 20, 21, 24, 29, 30, 33) are now reserved for Women candidates in the General category, Ward 16,28 & 34 (Women) for Scheduled Cast, Ward 26 for Women from Backward Classes. In total 12 wards will have women candidates contesting the upcoming polls. All others will be open for all candidates of the General Category.
As earlier reported in our October issue, [DLF2 Split in two MCG wards] 26 August 2023 notification by the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies Department, Haryana had put DLF2 split into two parts with part of J-block, Q & X block falling into ward 1 while the rest of DLF2 came in Ward 2. Hundreds of residents and RWA representation raised concerns about the split at DC and CM levels. There has been unconfirmed information that as a result of all efforts by residents, the earlier notice has been revised to bring the whole of DLF2 under Ward 2 along with Vill. Sarhaul, Vill. Dundahera, parts of Udyog Vihar, and high-rises of Heritage City, The Vilas, DLF Oakwood, Beverly Park 1 & 2, Belvedere Tower and Surya Vihar.
