Diwali or Deepawali is the biggest festival not only celebrated by Hindus but also by Sikhs, Jain and Buddhist communities of our country. The festival of light symbolises the victory of good over evil. It also signifies the importance of joy and peace and the victory of light over darkness. It is celebrated to seek the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi…. the Goddess of wealth and abundance. It usually falls in the month of October and rejuvenates the entire population to get ready for the grand celebration.
Princeton was not behind for any celebration of this kind . 20th October was fixed for Diwali mela and a week before itself it was the matter of main discussions among Princetonites.
A great banner was displayed informing about the day, date, timings and the program for the day. On 19th evening the parking spaces adjacent to kids play area were very smoothly cleared and more than two dozen cars were accommodated elsewhere by the PECA members with the help of the guards. A stage was created and on either sides of the stage were the numerous stalls shining with artificial jewellery, Diyas , suits, sarees and what not!! Altogether there were about 30 to 35 stalls on either sides of the seating arrangements.
The products of the stalls were exemplary, colourful and attractive that it was difficult to ignore the items. The friendly stall owners were dealing with the well attired buyers.
Apart from these, there were eatery stalls stationed on the adjacent road which was of great attraction to all. About 10 to 15 steaming eatery stalls spread the mixed aroma of all the eatables which instigated the tastebuds of each and everyone present around.
Children were very busy with the huge rides which swung from end to end . The giant wheel, merry go round, swinging ship were boosting the zeal and enthusiasm of the people around.
The selfie booth was a great attraction for the people of all ages…
The vibrant anchor who kept the people around involved, with his petty puzzles and riddles, gained the maximum attraction.
The place was crowded with people of DLF phase V residents for about 5 hours and it was a spectacular scene of watching people celebrating the most important festival of the year together with family and friends in the community nearer to their sweet homes where they live.
My heartfelt thanks to the RWA members who made it happen!!
