Defence Colony

Diwali Mela

On October 19, the Diwali Mela at your happening joint saw a huge congregation and was a runaway success. It started at 11 am with lots of stalls being put up by the residents from Defence Colony as well as other entrepreneurs.

Prominent among those was a stall put up by our own resident Sumeet Chugh (NIZAM’S) a name which doesn’t need any introduction. Another food stall was put up by Nathu’s, again a name known to all. Yet another stall was by our caterer, ART of Masala, whose food everyone relishes.

Games stalls were put up by the children of our colony, which attracted a huge crowd. Lots of prizes were won by the patrons who visited.

Many stalls for Diwali gift items, clothing, books etc., etc., were also there. Here everyone was seen shopping for Diwali. Lucky draw coupons were given to the stall members, who in turn gave the coupons to the visitors who came to their stall and purchased stuff from them.

A huge crowd of our little ones was enjoying at the Kids Corner, where the games were put up like bouncy (free for all) and bungee jumping, train ride etc., which were arranged for them.

People came throughout the day and enjoyed while a live DJ and scrumptious food were at hand.

The presence of Anuj Bakshi, Abhijat, Amit Agarwal, Col Ahluwalia Ji, Dr. Manpreet Kaur Bawa, our senior citizen members, and Sameer Dev Kapoor, along with their families, made the event a lively one.

We also organised a Mega Tambola at 5 pm, which was played by approx. 150 -200 persons. Lots of people through an array of bumper and cash prizes, which were given by Sunita Bhardwaj along with Harjit Kaur Bawa (chairperson SCF), P.N. Agarwal, and Sushil Bagga (the great philanthropist), who contributed more than 70% of the gift items distributed among residents. Parth Gupta (another big sponsor from Xazina Jewels) gave the rest.

The winners included the names of Lamba, Anjali Bakshi, Chinki, Mandeep, Seema, Rashmi Verma, etc. etc. and many more.

Finally, the last tambola, which began at 8 pm, was played by more than 200 residents. At this stage, the gathering was approx. 650-700 people, and the space was buzzing with activity. As the crowd started rising, we had to rush to arrange more and more tables and chairs (from the entire premises, including the SCF, dining hall, bar, etc.) The pictures are self- explanatory and speak for themselves.

The bumper tambola prizes were given by Arun Kumar Singh Ji, Sushil Bagga Ji, Mandeep Ji, Lamba Ji, Vinod Jolly Ji, Brig. Kukreja Ji and Seema Ji.

The prizes worth approx… 2,50,000.00 (gift hampers from Xazina Jewels , M/s S. B. Medicare (P) Ltd., and our own club) were distributed to the winners.

A lucky draw was taken out at 10 pm, and a total of 10 prizes were given to the guests present there.

Finally, A Maha Lucky Draw was taken out at 10.30 pm where a 32* television was won by one of our residents from A Block.

The Mela continued till 1 am, even then ladies were putting on mehendi for their special day (karwachauth). The mehendi application started at 9 am and continued till past midnight at none other than our safe and secure Happening Joint.

Residents from the entire colony and outside came and enjoyed their day with their families and friends. We, the Team of A Block Association and Club, wholeheartedly thank all of you for being there and making it a great success. A big thank you to Charu Lata Agarwal for helping in the tambola with Varun Anand. We all residents were blessed to be rubbing shoulders with each other in bonhomie. Rarely are such occasions witnessed, and they become memories for all time.
