Diwali and Stray Dogs

Does Diwali bring happiness to all? Or is it biased to our own comforts and likings? In my opinion, joyful celebrations to us might not be joyful to other living beings. During Diwali firecrackers, stray dogs are hurt in many unspoken ways.

As dogs have a sensitive sense of hearing, the loud noises around the city scare them and make them feel unsafe. The feeling of home is taken away by their own neighbourhood. This Diwali many stray dogs went missing and were panic-stricken. It’s very disheartening that even after having to know these facts we as a collective community are unable to protect and save our furry friends.

The stray dogs go into hiding and in search of hiding, they get lost. As we know dogs are very protective of their territories, some dogs end up getting attacked. In light of the issue, we all could make sure the dogs have shelters to seek refuge in and feel protected. Hoping to take up a collective initiative, we as a community should start small and celebrate our festivals in an inclusive way; One in which it’s not just ‘us’ but everyone.

Over the course of the week following Diwali, all the missing dogs were found within DLF2 and have happily returned home.
