Saraswati Puja, integral to Indian culture, honours artistry and wisdom, reflecting reverence for knowledge, nature, and life through timeless rituals. Held during Basant Panchami, and predominantly celebrated in the east, children are initiated into learning, fostering joy and learning for all.
Ancient and omnipresent Devi Saraswati, epitomises the multifaceted divine feminine. The goddess, revered as Veda Mata, guided the ancient sages and symbolises the Saraswati River, the lifeblood of Vedic and ancient Indian civilisation, sustaining historically significant regions.As the deity of speech, she symbolises language, revered for its precision and scientific sophistication.She embodies the feminine principle of art and music, allowing this essence to flow freely through diverse expressions, epitomising genuine culture and worship. Symbolically linked to the moon, the Devi wields the Veena, representing music and cosmic vibrations, dispelling ignorance and inertia. She rides her swan, symbolising beauty, on the tranquil lake of the mind, bestowing serene calm.
On February 14, the hallowed grounds of Durga Bari came alive with hymns and mantras, blending with the fragrant aroma of various offerings, including kul, kanthali kola, jackfruits, drumstick flowers, shank alu, and green coconuts, accompanied by bamboo quill pens and ink pots.
At the heart of the spectacle stood the ethereal idol of Maa Saraswati, clad in pristine white, holding her veena atop a majestic swan, radiating tranquility and grace. Adorned in garments, jewels and sholapith, her presence exuded divine and artistic splendour. In unison, the members of the Pooja committee, devotees’, students, and artists sought her blessings for knowledge and enlightenment.
The festivities continued with a lavish serving of Khichuri Bhog and delightful accompaniments, offering a sumptuous luncheon to all. As twilight approached, a cultural soirée and convivial dinner followed, illuminating the culmination of the day’s jubilant celebrations.
