As I enter the District Park, after a packed day of work – I take a deep breath in and sigh out with a feeling of gratitude. This is a time and space for me to soak in the beauty of Nature and relax, as I gaze at the bottle brush, Petunias in full bloom and eucalyptus trees, a light fragrance in the breeze. The monument which is now a heritage site adds a certain mystery and charm, as I begin my walk. The park is infused with vibrant energy, children practicing Karate and choreographed dances, toddlers laughing as they play on the slides – I love such sights, sounds and enthusiasm for wellness.
This Park has served as an inspiring workspace for me, as I sit next to a bougainvillea plant and sketch away my collection of Yoga Minaudiere. The sheer vastness of the space offers something for all age groups – whether it be to enjoy lunch in the sun, practice meditation near a quieter spot, hold a meeting, play the guitar, a game of badminton or football, take a nap, a leisurely walk or exercise. Evening walks, particularly in twilight are beautiful, as the lights sparkle and the monument looks majestic against a peachy-purple-blue sky. I enjoy many walks and conversations with wonderful company, not realizing where the time goes. As residents of Vasant Vihar, we are blessed with a park such as this and it is our duty to be mindful of how we treat it – with respect while maintaining hygiene. A space like this in Vasant Vihar is true luxury, we must cherish it.
