Save your neighborhood – Save the deers
We would like to call your attention to a news item published in various national publications on June 27, 2023, stating that the Deer Park in Hauz Khas, New Delhi, will be closed and the inhabited deer will be relocated to Rajasthan and Bhati Mines.
Deer Park was opened in 1960 by visionary Shri A.N. Jha with an aim to nurture deers. Subsequently, sub-sections for rabbits and ducks were added. Deer Park’s name and fame have extended throughout the city of Delhi and nearby areas such as Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida, and so on. It is a popular tourist destination for both international and domestic visitors in Delhi. This location is frequented by older residents from Green Park, Hauz Khas, Safdarjung Development Area, HumayunPur, Safdarjung Enclave, Krishna Nagar, R.K. Puram, Malviya Nagar, Mehrauli, and other colonies.
People visiting this area have developed strong affinity with the deers, rabbits and ducks and especially for deers because of their innocence. By shifting the deers from this park will dishearten and hurt the feelings of senior citizens and children.
Moving the deer to a new location among ferocious predators such as leopards, tigers, and hyenas, among others, would be an act of severe brutality and barbarism towards innocent animals that no civilized person would appreciate.
The closure of Deer Park will spread a message of human insensitivity towards innocent, voiceless animals to release them in front of carnivorous animals as they are not in the habit of living with them in the present park and are bound to be prey of the flesh eating cruel animals.
In light of the foregoing, the Animal Welfare Society of India, Green Park, New Delhi held a meeting on July 9, 2023, and raised its voice to save these deers. The formal representation would also be made to the authorities of Government of India.
As a South Delhi resident, please pray for deer to avoid being prey to animals. And, if feasible, attempt to send representations to the local authorities requesting that the decision to relocate the deer from Deer Park, Hauz Khas be withdrawnimmediately. (Animalwelfa resociety19170@gmail.com)
