MLA Shikha Rai takes over
Change is the only constant, a refrain that’s most apt and a hallmark of a healthy democracy. The current results of the Delhi election reflect a need for change, a fresh flow of ideas to effectively handle the problems of the city, and just may be waning faith in the outgoing regime, considering the closeness of the contest.
At the outset, one would like to appreciate the good work done by our local MLA, Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj. A humble and ever-smiling person, he was extremely approachable and willing to listen and solve the problems of the residents however well he could. When he couldn’t, he would equally humbly accept his limitations. One is sad to see such a person lose, but that’s the beauty of democracy, where one serves whenever given a chance and then moves on to allow others.
As the newly elected MLA, Smt Shikha Rai, takes over, one wishes her all the very best to fulfil all the promises made by the incumbent government. As a resident of the colony, there is a wish list from a senior citizen who’s been living in GK2 for 40 years to see this colony become the most sought-after once again.
The sewage system of the colony is in shambles and needs to be completely overhauled. The water supply, especially in S-Block, is erratic, possibly requiring major work to maintain pressure. The roads, including at the entry point of GK2 are full of potholes, needing repair at the earliest. The traffic situation in the colony is nothing short of a nightmare, possibly requiring an out-of-the-box solution. On top of this, the encroachments, both by residents and vendors are rampant and need to be dealt with firmly. The trees are desperately crying out to be pruned. The list is long, and the expectations are huge. Yet, with great power comes great responsibility. One hopes that with the cooperation of the central government and new zeal, the synergies developed will help GK2 achieve its past glory.
