DefCol Walkathon – “Walk & Pledge”

Now don’t you yawn
When I tell you we went for a walkathon
On the beautiful 5th of October dawn
Which was held at Jain Muni lawn
And had almost the whole colony drawn

The first of its kind to happen in Defence Colony…all thanks to the organisers and supporters — Abhishek Dutt ji , Vijay Pandey, Samir Dev Kapoor, Mandeep Singh, Anuj Bakshi, Ajay Kumar, Harjit Kaur, Preeti Ahuja;  We Women team —  Saguna, Deepika Nirula, Taman Chandhok, Priyanka Jaina, Mansi Brar and many more,  it was beautifully organised and attended by a large number of people from all over Defcol and nearby colonies as well.

But of course, who wouldn’t do that when the cause was great? A pledge by men to protect the women, by women to protect her sisters and daughters and her fellow friends, as beautifully quoted by Saguna, the team leader of We Women’s Club.

The enthusiasm spread swiftly among people within minutes of gathering in the Jain Muni Mandir. Specially designed t-shirts were given to all participants.  As soon as the warm-up zoomba session began, it drew everyone together children, men, and women – the oldest an 83-year-old lady, who took the lead and climbed the stage, inspiring others to join… and then hands could be seen swinging. Feet could be heard thumping as the crowd geared up for the walkathon, which started from Jain Muni Mandir and moved placidly  through the lanes of C block, passing Radha Krishna Mandir, C Block Gurudwara and back to Jain Muni Mandir for light refreshments.

It was an excellent step to build up community strength and encourage everyone to pledge and value the safety of women in today’s crucial times.

We hope more such events will be organised and more often for such causes.
