One fails to understand why we refuse to accept our city walls, boundaries of our parks, bus stands, sign boards and other infrastructure as our very own? It is after all “public” infrastructure and please do not forget we are the public and it is our money with which all this infrastructure is created- tax payer’s money.
When probable candidates of each contesting party decide to plaster every vacant face in the city with their poster and no one speaks, its concerning.
The Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007 (Delhi Act 1 of 2009) clause 3 clearly states: _3. Penalty for defacement of property. – (1) Whoever defaces any property in public view by writing or marking with ink, chalk, paint or any other material except for the purpose of indicating the name and address of the owner or occupier of such property, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to fifty thousand rupees, or with both._
Despite this, some amongst us continue to carelessly put posters and this time they are even putting outside many houses. And when all is silent and we accept this as yet another trespass on us, we are only waiting for our drawing rooms to be plastered with these posters!
