The long-awaited Delhi elections are now just a few weeks away, but the heat is on all over the capital, so how can Def Col not be in the news!!! The elections are on 5th Feb’25, and the results will be out 8th February. The buzz was on for the last 2-3 months when a few prospective candidates started creating a base by “getting in touch with the voter much before their candidatures were announced by their parties. These candidates started “PADYATRAS” by visiting door-to-door, in local parks, community centers, etc., to secure votes if they get the ticket. Here are the main candidates in the fray:
1) Abhishek Dutt (Congress): Abhishek is most popular in Defence Colony due to his two successful tenures as MCD councilor. He did numerous new developments, was available for the residents for support, had good relations with the departments, used his councilor funds for the colony, and is quite young (in his early forties) to serve the residents for five years. Abhishek started his campaign two months back and has covered most of his constituency with the support of his team and supporters. His major challenge would be in colonies like Kotla, which are strongholds of BJP and AAP. Looking at the public mood, he may be the winner this time to serve our colony in the best possible manner! Abhishek is quite a visible candidate and has a positive approach towards development, which would be useful for him to win and also for the residents to get the much-needed support. Youth Leader of Defence Colony, Vijay Kumar Pandey, who has been actively supporting Abhishek, is most visible in reaching out to maximum voters.
2) Ramesh Pahalwan (AAP) – Ramesh is an ex-congressman who lost his last election and keeps changing his party as per the public wave, but “public hai sab jaanti hai.” After the continued failure of the AAP in the last 10 years, the ticket has been given to Ramesh, who will find it tough to win the confidence due to the poor reputation and feedback of his party and predecessor.
3) Neeraj Basoya (BJP): Neeraj is also a former Congress member who has changed his party this time and joined the BJP to try his luck. BJP has not been in power for more than one decade, and it would be difficult for Neeraj to pull out voters to shift them from other parties in his favour, but as he is an experienced politician, he will have his own ways to win these elections.
