A sporting activity that’s fast gaining in popularity in several countries in India and abroad and now has been introduced into our own Club’s Sports Complex is Pickle Ball. A game played on a hard court with a paddle raquet and a plastic ball with holes is a mix of tennis table tennis and badminton,and is an energetically and challengingly exciting sport of immense and increasing popularity. It can be played by all ages.. It was by chance a piece of vacant dilapidated land lying behind the Tennis Court caught someone’s eye and floated the idea of starting a PickleBall court. The idea was received most enthusiastically by the Clubs Sports Committee and a call for vendors with MOU’s quotations copies of agreements etc were sent out, by the HGS ,were received and vetted by a committee headed by the Clubs Chairperson Sports Capt Rajan Khanna.The best quotation agreement was approved and signed between the HGS and vendor Gaurav Sharma who undertook the entire preparation and all the expense to be spent for the PickleBall court with revenue to be shared 50:50 as per agreement agreed and signed.In one month two Pickleball courts were ready for the inauguration on 7th June at DC(WA’s) Sports Complex with a ribbon cutting ceremony by Club President Khanna, Club VP Lalit Mittal HGS Vippy Bhasin. Chairperson Sports Capt Rajan Khanna Gaurav Sharma of the Pickleball Academy several other members and Sumeet Chugh RWA who has been of special help throughout the setting up of the Courts. Soon online bookings with nominal charges of Rs 600 for 4 persons club members and Rs 800 for 4 persons non members will be started shortly for players convenience. “ All this has been done for the betterment of the Club, seeing the fast popularity of PickleBall game in all other Clubs of Delhi, now our own members too can enjoy the game’ says Chairperson Sports Rajan Khanna. And no doubt it will be a great success.
