On Sunday 4 December, the first ever Books in the Park Mela was conceived as a meeting of book lovers, both children and adults, where they could lend, exchange or giveaway books from their collection, fiction and non-fiction, storybooks, comics. While you could give books away and get books you want from what was on offer, on the steps of the amphitheatre, this Daryganj was where booklovers would meet other booklovers and make new book friends.
Around 20 booklovers set up their books on display, half of them children. For the next hour and a half, there was a flurry of activity as book lovers and visitors browsed through books and picked up ones they liked if it was a giveaway by the owner. Children exchanged contact numbers if books were given on loan.
Some booklovers, under the impression that Daryaganj would remain open throughout the day arrived quite late and had to return disappointed. However, there is good news! Books in the Park is going to be a regular feature with some additional features that may include an app for sharing and giving away books!
