As Navratri gears up, people start looking forward to dandia and garba. Dandia, Gujrati’s favourite, has gained popularity in Northern India too. Club 26 started dandia classes 15 days before Navratri and sector ladies actively took part in those classes.
Craziness for dandia can be seen at Club 26 on Dandia Nite, as the whole lawn was packed with the crowd. Ladies were dressed up in chania cholis and gents in kurta pyjamas. Even the kids were in dandia dresses and holding their dandia stick; they were also enjoyhing the evening with their parents. The overwhelming crowd danced continuously on the live musical troupe, and the two singers did their best to sing all their favourite garba songs initially. Club’s Choreographer Nitin also taught many dandia steps and asked people to follow his steps. But later guests were heard complaining that the music troupe was belting out Punjabi numbers instead of Dandia songs.
The crowd was also seen on the stalls, which were put up to make easy Diwali shopping for residents. Even the food stalls were overcrowded as many were fasting and breaking fast with Navratri vrat thali. The menu consisted of paneer tikka, spring rolls, and regular thali. However, there were 3 counters to serve food, but there was only one counter to sell the food coupons. Next time it will be nice that there are at least two coupon counters. The joy and festivity were in the air.
