NFC RWA (Ashoka Park) organized a “Cyclothon” on 7 April with the aim of bringing to its young residents aged 8-12 a fun activity with the aim of promoting outdoor sports and a healthy future and for giving to them an opportunity to make friends other than their school-mates.
The ‘Cyclothon’ was scheduled to begin at 8.00 am and reporting time was 7.30 am. The very fact that 26 children along with their parents lined up displaying utmost punctuality was evidence of the enthusiasm and excitement. It was an absolute pleasure to see the presence of our very own seniors (Jagdeep Chokkhar, Raj Kumar Jain, Atul Gupta and Vinod Sondhi) to motivate the young participants and flag-off the race from the B-Block Shankar Market.
Before the event, all efforts were taken to ensure safe, secure and adequate road space for the children. It was a treat to watch the children and parents thank and express their gratitude to the NFC security personnel who were present to ensure that no cars use the colony roads whilst the event is on-going. Since there were 26 participants, they were divided into 3 groups and ‘Cyclothon’ was flagged-off in 3 batches being girls aged 8-12, boys aged 8-10 and boys aged 10-12.
All participants were awarded medals and certificates and the 3 toppers from each batch were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze Trophies. The happiness which lit up the faces of the youngsters made us feel extremely contented and washed away all the tiredness in organizing the event.
The shine in the young eyes and also their parents doubled by seeing the spread of refreshments for them which included a mix of bananas and apples, cheese sandwiches, choco-chip muffins, frooti and maaza, a mix of chips, funflips and doritos and water.
At the end, the event was a celebration of unity and hope and showcased the spirit of coming together as a community and spreading awareness of leading a healthy lifestyle early in life. Parents parted by requesting the team from the RWA who was present to organize such ‘Cyclothon’ for elders as well.
