A Cyber Crime and Hacking Awareness Program was held recently at JCO Club, where more than 100 residents from Defence Colony participated. The session aimed to educate attendees about online threats, cyber frauds, and preventive measures to safeguard personal and financial information.
The interactive program was organized by our RWA in collaboration with SHO Sh. Sunjay Sharma , Inspector Hansa Ram , along with S.I Tarun Raghav (cybercrime experts) , of Cyber Police Station Saket . Through their astute knowledge and narration, the sleuths through real-life case studies held the audience spellbound.
Inspector Hansa Ram emphasized that the reasons for most frauds are generally driven by fear, greed, and negligence. Understanding these factors is key to protecting ourselves from falling victim to online fraud.
Key Takeaways from the Session:
Experts provided valuable insights on identifying phishing attempts, securing digital devices , and implementing best practices for online safety . Some of the key measures discussed include:
• Enable two-step verification on WhatsApp and other important accounts; • Download apps only from official app stores (Google Play Store, Apple App Store); • Report cybercrimes immediately by calling 1930 or online at cybercrime.gov.in; • Use secure websites by checking for “https://” in the domain; • Download and use the CYBER DOST app for real-time safety updates; • Download and use the SANCHAR SATHI app for tracking and reporting lost mobile devices; • Avoid sharing personal or financial information over calls, emails, or social media; • Update passwords regularly and enable strong authentication methods; • Be cautious of phishing links and fraudulent messages; • Install and update antivirus software on all devices; • Report suspicious activity or cyber fraud immediately to the authorities.
Important Reminders:
Before sharing OTPs (One-Time Passwords), verify the sender’s identity and address . Fraudsters often impersonate legitimate entities to gain access to your accounts.
Don’t panic if you fall victim to cyber fraud. Stay calm, inform trusted family or friends, and report the incident right away.
No government agency will ask for money over the phone. Always verify directly with official helplines before making any payment.
Scammers often target senior citizens by posing as officials (e.g., BSES or DJB). Always verify with the official helpline before making payments.
Fraudsters use fear tactics to deceive people. Stay calm, verify the information, and report suspicious activity.
Always verify any money request—whether from a relative or an official—before transferring funds.
When filing a cybercrime complaint, use +91 before your phone number to ensure proper tracking by authorities.
In Case Your Phone Gets Hacked:
Immediately inform someone you trust and ask them not to transfer any money. Hackers often use compromised devices to request funds, so quick action can help prevent financial loss.
Stay safe online!
