The condition of the roads in Delhi deteriorates after every monsoon revealing systemic issues in infrastructure maintenance. Potholes, waterlogging, broken roads, cave-in roads have become a common sight in Delhi and in our colony. This year monsoon created havoc all over India. The rains caused cracks which expanded into larger potholes exposing the subpar quality of materials used in the construction. These become dangerous for the commuters especially for two wheelers rides increasing the risk of accidents. Water logging compounds the problem. Poor drainage systems lead to massive puddles on roads further damaging them. The rise of builder flats has worsened the drainage system as they have constructed ramps on top of the drains leading to clogged drains and flooded roads. The foul odour of stagnant water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other health risks. We need a plan where the local authority and the residents come together to resolve the issue. It is high time this issue is addressed because climate change is going to lead to freaky weather patterns and year after year the situation will only worsen. The entire colony’s drainage system is to be overhauled which is overwhelmed by the increased water run-off from the newly constructed buildings. The residents and the MC must collaborate closely and persuade the local civic authorities to fix the problem. Forming sub committees for specific issues can streamline effort. A long term solution to the colony issues is what we should strive for.
