Crochet – Keeping The Art Alive

She weaves and weaves, she weaves pure love. She is our own colony resident Rashmi Bakshi – an ardent crochet enthusiast, a wizard! She doesn’t take out time for crochet, she has a love affair with it. Her entire day is spent crocheting. other activities/chores fit in.

When a group of us ladies got the privilege to go learn crochet from her, she excitedly welcomed us to her very cozy warm living space where she sits the entire day and intricately weaves pieces of wonder. Beautiful soft music played in the background, and the room extended into a small bright balcony adorned with well-nurtured happy plants.

She then told us her story while effortlessly guiding each member of the group – how to measure, knot, and weave. We entered the fascinating addictive world of crochet.

It was her ‘Bua’ who got her hooked to the ‘hook’ at the age of six. She took a break after marriage and now it’s been more than fifteen years. Her cupboards are filled with yarn and needles which come alive in her hands. It was an ‘awe’ moment when she showed us blankets, throws, ponchoes, scarves, mufflers, and even long dresses knitted by her. She says she is in another zone when she weaves. She is gifted to even sense the persona of the individual she weaves for.

“It is meditative, therapeutic for me,” she says. Her bright eyes and her radiant face reflect the love that oozes out onto her crochet work. It restrains the taut lives that we live. Keep weaving Rashmi… enkindle others with your spark!
