Criminal Cases at Highest Level in Def Col

by Ajay Kumar (A-440, 9999055994)

It seems Def Col has been targeted by all types of criminals who freely move in and out of the colony after executing various crimes (Car lifting, chain or bag snatching, burglaries, thefts and what not). RWA guards and police teams are trying their best but so many openings from all sides of the colony.

Why these crimes are increasing are?
• There are no “Day-guards” in the colony who may question thousands of people who “Visit” our colony.
• There are many commercial activities on all floors of the houses including basements that hundreds of employees, customers and support staff visit every day. They park vehicles at the place of their choice at times for more than 10 hours which is also a big hurdle.
• There are many senior citizens who are living alone and are most vulnerable to crimes.
• Most of the working residents are out for the day and these outsiders who enter into our colony as vendors, couriers, suppliers of online products, plumbers, labour, mechanics etc. have sufficient time to plan any crime. The residents have been requesting the RWA to keep a check on the vendors but they keep roaming around freely during the day.
• There is scarcity of manpower with the police to provide regular beats throughout the day.
How to Safeguard Def Col Residents?
• To make Def Col a “Gated Colony” has become most important and an important measure to get started. Once the colony is gated as is being done in many colonies, the “day guards” will be able to check all the vehicles, visitors at the entrance and exit of the colony.
• All residents should be given “car stickers” to identify their cars at the entrances and exit to stop car thefts. The outsiders’ cars should be parked at specified areas in each block.
• Each domestic help needs to be verified by the police before employing them. The police beat needs to be increased and they should question the suspects sitting in parks etc.
• CCTV should be installed by all the residents as the free CCTC provided by the government are not functioning.
• All The Residents Must Pay Society Charges – to strengthen the RWA to provide 24 hour security of the best agencies.
Lastly, we all have seen that as the population of our colony is increasing with each passing year, the security cannot be compromised for the safety of residents who have been losing their hard-earned money due to these visible gaps. There may be some initial inconvenience to few residents but looking at long term benefits for our families, the colony must be gated, day guards posted to secure the residents for 24 hours.
