Crescent Premier League – The name itself invokes a lot of ecstatic, joyous, elated, nostalgic feelings. It is the inter-block Cricket tournament held every year in Crescent. There were three
categories – Senior boys, Junior boys and Ladies. The senior boys’ teams were based on the four Crescent towers – Team A, B, C and D and selected by the auction which was no less than the international standards!! The second category was ladies teams – Dangerous Divas in red, Glittering Gems in green and Shining Superstars in orange. Junior boys’ teams were Spartans, Ninjas and Samurais; and Crescent maintenance staff teams – Team Prahlad and Team Umesh – comprised managers, guards, sweepers, electricians etc. were also there.
Stage for the CPL-2022, on 15–16 October, was set up at the Central Park. Serious practice sessions were visible for all categories as Cricket fever started taking over around Dusshera. The bubbles of excitement for both the players and spectators were very evident.
On the D-Day dawn the CPL theme music reverberated in the society. Players gathered in the Central Park in their respective CPL branded Colour-coded T-shirts. Cheering spectators surrounded the Central Park till the resident balconies!! Umpires PK Roy and Amar Upadhyay made sure the difficult rules of CPL were implemented. Commentator Ramesh Nanda kept the pulse high with his ever so realistic and entertaining live commentary.
The whole society was converted into a high energy, fervent and applauding stadium during the entire weekend. As the titans of all categories clashed, every wicket and every boundary in the restricted area matches attracted huge exhalation and ovation. The final crowns were taken by Team A in Senior boys, captained by Rajat; Glittering Gems in Ladies team, captained by Rinku Kalra; Junior team Spartans, captained by Shubham and Team Prahalad in maintenance staff team. The prize distribution was a glittering event of distributing CPL cups and medals followed by sumptuous dinner.
Year after year this “Crescent festival” is bringing Cresentarians together. It’s becoming an epic event of comradeship, hard work and above all “sportsmanship”. Kudos to the organizers PK Roy, Amar Upadhyay and Renu Bajpai for the momentous event! The tournament is the most awaited event in Crescent every year – the feeling of exhalation and comradeship remains in the society for many months together.
