Councillor Shikha Rai Raises Five Questions In The MCD House – How Was Public Utility Plot Given To A Private Corporate In GK-I

The GKRA Campaign against the construction of a private hospital next to Archna Complex is getting support not only from residents but also from our elected representatives Councillor Shika Rai and Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj who had earlier provided some important documents from MCD. A delegation of GKRA Office Bearers met Shikha Rai seeking her intervention in the matter as attempts seeking information through RTI went around in circles with no information forthcoming.

Shikha Rai was informed of the plight of residents next to a 400- bed Hospital -wailing sirens all day & night, chemist shops &vendors lining Hansraj Gupta Marg, Negotiating traffic snarls to reach home, footpaths as temporary homes and what it will do to the already strained infrastructure and environment.

GKRA members wanted a copy of GK-1 Site Map (Sajra), which she promptly procured from MCD, which has been a great help in this cause and for establishing ownership and status of a few more Sites under dispute Namely South Delhi Club and more.

More crucially GKRA wanted to know how and who gave this clearance? Shikha Rai said that she herself was unaware as to how and when clearance was given. She has since, in a written communication, raised five questions in the MCD House for the Commissioner to state:-

1) There is a proposal passed by MCD for a 400-bed hospital in Ward No. 173, GK-I adjacent to Archna Complex.

2) Whether the two plots, one owned by MCD and the other by DLF have been amalgamated for the purpose of this hospital? If so, whether it is permitted under the Rules?

3) Whether a feasibility report of such a huge hospital has been taken on record?

4) What has been the role of Land & Estate, Town Planning, Building or any other department of the MCD for the clearance of this proposal?

5) When these plots are earmarked for public building/public utility, how it has been given to a private corporate?

At the time of going to the press, response from MCD Commissioner is awaited. Meanwhile the GKRA Petition in the Court will gain greater credibility armed with genuine documents instead of hearsay.
