A never ending saga
by Manoj Kumar
The menace of rampant construction across GK-2 continues unabated. In spite of our having highlighted this concern in these columns time and again, the situation on this front seems to be slipping fast out of control. It might not be an incorrect reflection of the ground reality to state that the air pollution levels in GK-2 are in the severe plus
category at all times of the day thanks to the flouting of the construction norms by the Builders. Not just that, even the noise decibel levels generated by the construction activity far exceed the human endurance limits. It is common to see construction debris strewn all over; back lanes encroached upon by the labor employed at the construction site and construction material blocking the roads all across the colony. The haphazard manner in which the Builders operate robs the residents of their peace and quiet too. Very often, trucks start offloading the construction material like iron rods and bricks in the wee hours of the morning thereby disturbing the early morning precious sleep of the residents.
These woes do not end even with the completion of the construction activity as the Builders leave the site behind in a pitiable condition with potholed roads and dirty back lanes sticking out like sore thumbs. It is high time the RWA sits up and takes a serious view of this situation. The long pending demand by the residents to develop and enforce a Code of Conduct for the Builders needs to be worked upon immediately. A refundable deposit to act as a security for any losses caused by the Builders should also be collected. Finally, the RWA should also do a benchmarking study with the other colonies about how this activity is managed there so that some of the good practices followed elsewhere can be replicated in our colony too.
