Defence Colony has eight dhalaos in total which were places to dump garbage but due to segregation of garbage outsourced to a company called DDSIL, they are used as collection points of garbage collected from the colony and from these points picked up by tipper trucks and taken to the dumping yard for treatment. These dhalaos are also used by waste pickers to segregate the garbage making them in a sorry state to see with garbage all around and even spilling on to the road. One more issue causing this state was the dumping of the household waste like furniture from affected basements into these dhalaos instead of disposing them off in a proper manner. Seeing the condition of these dhalaos, some concerned residents and our councillor took this up with the MCD department. And thanks to their efforts, some steps were taken for rectification so that these dhalaos don’t become a sight no one would like to see.
