I am so in love with the printed word. It allows my mind to travel to faraway exotic places – my heart sojourns on an exciting adventure & my imagination! – well, the less said about that the better! When a good friend, Ruchi Swarup, invited me to join a Book Club, I naturally jumped at the idea.
And so began an association of likeminded people with a book in hand. A Book Club is a place where a reading group meets frequently to discuss a specific book. We started with The Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni & moved to many others, including poetry & prose. We read & exchanged our opinions lending a new or an altered perspective – either in agreement or contrary to the writer. We touched every topic relevant to life, living, society & its norms. With every discussion, we evolved our thinking & refined our sentiments!
Discussions do tend to meander, but we managed to stay on course. We shop for materialistic things inconsiderately but how wonderful it is to be introduced to new ideas & perspectives! Through reading, we also feel one with the writer, who is living a different life in a faraway world yet connect at an authentic level.
Our Book Club took a backseat during COVID, but I hope it’s revived soon. After all, a person with a book is never lonely; it’s quite like being with your best friend!
