A Large Crowd However Enjoyed a Warm Afternoon of Fun & Music
Club held a Christmas Carnival (Carnival is a misnomer and not usually applied to Christmas celebrations!) on Sun, 24 Dec at noon with a live band and fun rides and games. It was a somewhat warm winter afternoon and the guests were getting under the garden umbrellas for some shade. Some managed to shade but the others had to bear the hot sun.
A big platform was set up for the singers and their accompanists. The event began with some carol singing but then blaring Bollywood numbers took over and the entire atmosphere turned into a loud Bollywood jamboree.
We wondered why even a Christmas celebration, which in earlier years was primarily a children’s event, should be converted into a raucous Bollywood afternoon. The music was so loud that the children and senior citizens felt miserable. I’m sure Puja Dewan, whose home is right behind the stage, must have hidden herself and her parents in some remote corner of the house to try and get away from the blaring noise which must have been off the charts of her sound measuring scale!
However, once they were there most guests managed to enjoy the afternoon but our 15A seniors did miss John’s guitar and carols which some of them used to dance to on the make-shift platform on the grassy plot in front of the musicians.
