Choked Sewage Line Giving Sleepless Nights to Residents

Elected Representatives & Authorities Keep Silent On The Issue

This burning issue  which the immediate neighbours – Aggarwal’s  Birla’s and Khoslas  are facing has been a long standing issue for which the previous RWA of B – 4 block has struggled to resolve many times but the only action taken by DJB was sending the suction machines and getting the sewer temporarily cleaned. The problem is that there is a huge peepal tree in the backlane the roots of which have completed choked the manhole. As soon as the rains come there is massive back flow of dirty water entering into the basement of these houses.

It is a systemic problem that requires a collective solution. Here’s a breakdown of the situation and potential steps to resolve it:

1. Responsibility: The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is responsible for maintaining the sewer system and ensuring it functions properly.

2. Negligence: Despite repeated reminders, the DJB and MLA have failed to address the issue, leading to frustration among residents.

3. Private labor costs: The estimated cost of 4 lakh is prohibitively expensive for individual residents, making it unfair to expect them to bear the burden.

To resolve this issue, consider the following steps:

1. Escalate the matter: Write to the DJB and MLA again, reiterating the severity of the issue and the need for immediate action.

2. CC the local authorities: Copy the letter to the local Municipal Corporation, Mayor, and other relevant authorities to ensure everyone is aware of the situation.

3. Request a joint inspection: Ask the DJB and MLA to conduct a joint inspection to assess the situation and identify the root cause of the problem.

4. Demand a solution: Request the DJB to take responsibility and provide a solution, including clearing the peepal tree roots and repairing the sewer system.

5. Explore legal options: If the authorities fail to respond, consider consulting a lawyer to explore legal options, such as filing public interest litigation (PIL).

6. Community involvement: Rally the community to support the cause, and consider organizing a peaceful protest or signature campaign to raise awareness & pressure the authorities.

These helpless residents have approached the MLA and assurance was given each time but nothing was done. At last, as always Khosla’s and Birla’s have decided to get the work done privately for which they are spending a huge amount. This is so unfortunate and shameful that for the callousness and negligence of Delhi Jal Board and our elected representatives these residents had to suffer for years, their properties got damaged and they underwent extreme mental and physical stress. Remember, as citizens, you have the right to demand services from the authorities. Stay persistent, and don’t give up until a solution is found!
