Chief Minister’s visit to South City

Lazing on the Sunday afternoon as the electricity was playing hide and seek and the fury of the sun God was at its peak the loud doorbell pierced the siesta.

“Madam yeh gadi hatayey.”

The lane guard was asking all residents to remove their cars and park them elsewhere

“But why”

‘”he CM sahib is coming”

Since afternoon I had noticed some police personnel roaming around and the rare sight of roads being swept was so heartening. Some change, I thought.

‘Is the CM actually coming to South City to our Lane?” My husband sneered and we saw most residents steering their cars away. We were anyway going out for some time so we didn’t discuss this and left home in the car. Nearly after 2 hrs we returned home.

Some policemen were directing traffic and not allowing outside vehicles to come in. Soon we saw a huge fire truck and an ambulance parked close to our house. A couple of police vehicles were hovering around with their walkie-talkies. The Bandobast was complete. Yes, the big boss was nearly there.

The moment we parked our car one burly policeman came and asked us to remove the car.

“Sorry, but why? There is enough space for the special entourage to pass through. Please don’t cause inconvenience to the common citizens, my husband announced and we went in. The policeman was taken aback but we moved on.

A few minutes later after a frenzy of activity, the sirens of the white cars and then I saw our CM arriving in the lane. I don’t know why he was here but I believe he was visiting some family members here. Later that evening after a few hours the siren and the fire brigade announced the departure of the chief minister.

I wish he had come unannounced and seen the open drains, the garbage piled up the erratic power supply and not just the sanitized lanes for the day!
