Chariots, Aromas, and Bhog: Anandadhara’s Vision for Maa Durga’s Festivities

The revered festival of Durga Pooja is celebrated with gusto every year. The Bengali community, Anand-adhara, held its annual general body meeting on Saturday, 13 July. Though the pooja is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, 9 October, the preparations have begun to be planned.

Anandadhara has been trying to popularize Durga Puja in Wishtown a la Chitranjan Park in Delhi. The meeting held in Club3 was attended by enthusiasts, not only from the Bengali samaj but people of every community.

It was nice to see Chatterjees and Banerjees and Punjabis amongst others. This is commendable as Maa belongs to all of us.

There were suggestions to bring the deity on a chariot traversing all over Wishtown with music to celebrate Agomony of Maa Durga. It was planned that the festivities will be on a grand scale. The welcoming gate will be inviting.

The aura and aroma will be attractive; the ground will be levelled and carpeted. There will be music and food. The theme will be cultural programs where the stress will be more on deploying local talent. Bhog will be distributed.

The crux of the meeting was funds which remains a challenge as ever. But with Anandadhara coming of age, that issue will sort itself out. Jai Maa Durga!
