The F-block, Sector-50, celebrates Republic Day with zeal and patriotism each year. However the pleasant sunny day this year added fun and joy to the celebrations. We received following reports of celebration from various societies and an organisation:
Crescentarians Salute the National Flag
The reverberations of melodious voice, in The Crescent (F2), of Lata Mangeshkar singing “Ae mere watan ke logon” installed the relatable patriotic feeling among Crescentarians, as they got ready to unfurl the national flag at their Central Park. N K Mehra, the President of Crescent, did the honours, followed by singing of national anthem Jana Gana Mana by children and residents. Traditional laddoos were distributed to all present.

The Republic Day is a reminder to all of their commitment to democracy and constitution of our nation, freed from colonial rule by the sacrifices of our forefathers. As Peter Marshal said, “May we think of freedom, not as the right to do as we please but as the opportunity to do what is right.” The Crescent community also abides by this motto, taking society in a whole new era of development. (Report by Payal Mathur, D-102, The Crescent).
Unfurling of Tiranga at Palm Grove
Republic Day reminds us of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and vision of those who shaped our country. The celebrations on this day aim to celebrate “unity in diversity” of our nation by bringing everyone together.
At Palm Grove (F5), Republic Day celebrations for the year 2025 started with unfurling of Tiranga and a joyous rendition of National Anthem followed by “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Matram”. Participants of all age groups – from 6 years old to super-seniors – participated with equal fervor in various activities.
Our young brigade consisting of Ananya (Flat 27), Mishka and Asmika (Flat 92), Nivanshee (Flat 401), Aarohi and Anvi (Flat 73) and Dhruv (Flat 23) showed off their talent in patriotic flavor with songs, dances and poem recitation. The adult group joined in an impromptu song “chhodo kal ki baatein” to contribute their bit.
This was followed by many races organized by the managing committee for all age groups in which everyone participated with enthusiasm and gusto; the races included lemon and spoon race, balloon race, 3 legged race to name a few. All participants and winners were felicitated by Managing Committee with gifts and chocolates.
The highlight of the event was an “Ikebana Display” organised by Mrs Tia (Flat 304) which added to the colors and mood of patriotism.

Celebrations at Overseas Apartment
Maintaining its tradition and vibrant culture, Overseas Apartment (F9) celebrated Republic Day at its Central Park. The society has completed 20 years and so has the Republic Day celebration. From toddlers to super senior citizens, all participated with zeal and enthusiasm. Various cultural and sports events were organized. It all started with unfurling of the National Flag by the society president, P. K. Tripathi.
Children from various age groups participated in drawing competition and painted their imagination. It was so heartening to see kids as young as 1 year old to 15-year-old enthusiastically making efforts to give their best. Then it was the turn of song and poem recitation. Again, right from “Nanha munna rahi hoon” to “Kacha ghara hoon mai” found its place in the said competition. Some finished it well, some forgot the lyrics and some went blank… but all had the same enthusiasm to participate and zeal to do well.

After that, the much-awaited races took place. Even though we have constraint of space, but there was no constraint or limitation of eagerness to show stamina speed. From 5–6-year-olds to senior citizens, all participated and tried very hard to beat one another.
It was then time for the fun – “Tug-of-war” between girls/ladies and boys/gents. I am not going to divulge the result here as lot of factors decides the result. As you all know, in all these games at such events are more for fun rather than winning or losing. So everyone was the winner!

Laddus and samosas are an integral part of these celebrations and made their presence felt. With the cooperation of all the residents, untiring efforts of the staff members and guidance of the committee members, the event was a grand success that it had been all these years.
