Celebrating Earth, Our Only Home

On 22nd April 2023, the RWA of D3&4 Vasant Kunj, and Slim Homes got together to celebrate Earth Day, keeping in mind that celebrating our planet should not be re-stricted to one day.

Following were the various activities:

1. Plogging in D3&4. Several Residents joined in and, with the use of garbage bags and gloves loaned to us by Saahas NGO, we managed to collect a reasonable amount of trash in an otherwise relatively clean colony.
2. Distribution of compost to the Residents. The compost is made within the colony itself under the able guidance of our Head Maali, Panchanan. There was an abundant harvest of 1000 kg of pure, organic compost and Residents were very happy to take away bags full of it. After all they also had a hand in it by virtue of religiously segregating their household waste into Wet and Dry waste
3. Sale of cloth bags at a stall set up by Slim Homes. The bags are made of repurposed fabric comprised by used upholstery, curtains, linen etc. This exercise ensures effective recycling thus contributing towards a circular economy. Seventy-two bags were sold and the money collected by Slim Homes will be ploughed back into projects that sustain the Environment.
4. Bin For Plastic & E Waste In an effort towards regular participation on an everyday basis, we encouraged Residents to use the bin for plastic as well as E-waste, which is placed at the Exit Gate. The Waste collected in the bin is sent to Recyclers by Karma Lakelands.
   Towards the end the Maalis enjoyed refreshments contributed by Vandana Ahluwalia (General Secretary) and Dr Sarla Aggarwal.
