As the festival of lights, Diwali 2024, approached, it brought with it an air of joy, hope, and enthusiasm. In keeping up with the tradition of 3 years, NFC RWA (Ashoka Park) undertook a heartfelt initiative to spread festive cheer among our super senior citizens. And to pay tribute to the wisdom and experience of our elderly neighbors by visiting them on a day and time keeping their convenience in mind and gifting Diwali hampers filled with homemade cake and other homemade goodies curated thoughtfully to ensure our seniors remain healthy. The purpose of the initiative was to visit the seniors over 75 years of age and who are by themselves owing to the fact that their respective children are away having taken up employment outside Delhi, abroad etc. The idea was not only to extend warm Diwali wishes but also to reinforce community bonds, showing our seniors that they are cherished and are valued members of our colony. We cannot forget the fun and enthusiasm which went in preparation of the Hampers in the weeks prior, ranging from the type of cake, selection of goodies, the decorative diyas, the packing etc. etc. For the visits, members of NFC RWA (Ashoka Park) formed small groups to gift the hampers. As they knocked on doors, laughter and greetings filled the air, creating a lively atmosphere. Many seniors expressed their gratitude with radiant smiles and heartfelt words. The joy of receiving hampers was truly a reflection of the love and respect the community holds for its elderly members. Some super seniors shared stories from their past, reminiscing about how Diwali traditions have evolved over the years. Several senior citizens said, “I am truly touched by this gesture. It feels wonderful to know that the younger generation values us. This Diwali feels extra special.” Another senior added, “These hampers remind me of my childhood days and the joy of celebrating festivals with loved ones. Thank you for making this Diwali memorable for us.” Others invited us over for a special lunch. Some seniors said, “We keep on waiting the whole year to receive this call from you and the wait for the day for you to visit seems so long. Please visit more often beta..” The Diwali hamper gifting initiative was more than just a festive gesture; it was a beautiful reminder of the importance of kindness, respect, and unity within our community. Let us continue to embrace and celebrate the invaluable contributions of our super seniors ensuring that they feel cherished and connected year-round. With every shared smile and story, we reinforce the fabric of our community, lighting up lives not just during Diwali, but throughout the year.
