Carlton Gets Certified for Ensuring Zero Waste to Landfills

In the constant attempt to make Carlton an eco friendly and recycling conscious society, The Eco team took many measures to ensure and educate the residents on the benefits of the same. Hence it came as a no surprise when Carlton got its official certificate from E- Swachh for giving segregated solid waste and ensuring zero waste to landfill. With the help of Saahas team- the project “alag karo has been successful. The eco team along with Saahas team have dedicated their time and energy in educating each and every resident, ground staff and helping staff to ensure the same was implemented by each house.

The ”Alag karo” project was on its last phase of implementation wherein auditors visited the society and at random choose few residents to interview regarding the change they felt with this drive. Needless to say they were shocked to learn that not only was Carlton segregating waste as a normal practice but was also using the waste to create our own compost which was then used in the Carlton Lawns and some was given to residents to use in their homes. Thus earning Carlton a much deserved certificate.

However, the drive to make Carlton an ecofriendly society is not over. The eco team along with Ceca decided to reduce plastic usage by taking baby steps. The first step being introducing shopping bags made from cloth which are kept at the society grocery shop in case anyone forgets to bring their own bag and is free of cost! whilst residents are urged to bring their own bags, there are often times where people forget so in such cases instead of handing out plastic bags, the team has decided to furnish the shops with cloth bags thus taking a small step towards reducing plastic.
