Very important need of the hour program on Cancer prevention and beyond was arranged by Mr k K Kapila resident of A11 GP main and Mr SS Rudra in collaboration with Universal Unity Trust at IIC Annexe. Chief guest Dr G P Talwar, aged 98 years, Padma Bhushan, founder Director of Institute of Immunology and main Speaker Dr Maj. MD Ray, Prof. Surgical Oncology AIIMS & President UUT, highly decorated by President and State. The topic was Cancer prevention and beyond’.
A myth is prevalent even today that cancer diagnosis is equivalent to eminent death. Whereas 80% of cancers are preventable & 50 to 80% curable if diagnosed early.
Cancer is the 2nd important cause of death, 1st being heart disease.1 out of 5 males and 1 out of 6 females carry cancer risk, out of these 1 out of 8 males and 1 out of 11 females die. 50% of deaths being in Asia.
Research for causes and treatment is continuing with the motto ‘Cancer loses its life and cannot take anymore life’
Among the causes are – Mental- tension, irritation etc. can result in peptic ulcers, ignored can end in food pipe, stomach, intestinal cancer.
Physical causes – lifestyle- late night, consuming alcohol, pan parag, smoking, eating a high fat diet, red meat, no exercise are few examples. Heredity plays 10% role in cancer causes.
Any ignored chronic infection Hepatitis B &C can result in liver cancer. HIV positive can have non hodgkin Lymphomas HPV (human papilloma virus) can cause vulval, penile, cervical and oral cancers. 80% of cancers can be prevented by correcting life style and vaccination.
Not consuming carcinogens, meditation, Yoga, single life partner, treating infection etc. remaining vigilant and early Diagnosis is the crux for prevention and successful treatment. In females after 21 years of age till 65 years age, pap smear every year, never to ignore irregular, post coital & post menopausal bleeding.
Vaccination to both genders – age 9 to 15 years are given 2 doses 6 months apart. Age more than 15 years are given 3 doses as 0-1-6 months apart
Treatment by Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation as per requirement of case. Wherever suitable Laproscopic surgery is also done in Stomach spread cancers a trial is – chemo drug + hot water at 41 to 43 degrees celsius is kept inside stomach for 1 to 1&1/2 hours called HIPEC.
Dr GP Talvar explained that HCG is safe form of immunological intervention. It is not secreted by any organ of healthy or pregnant woman, hence antibodies will be free from side effects and no interference with reproductive function of female. HCG is high affinity for the monoclonal antibody binding. It’s a potential antibody for cancer. Dose is dependent on cytotoxicity of anti HCG antibody-lung cancer cells.
Immunotoxin produced targeting the HCG + cancer cells and linked to Sarcin cells (Sarcin is 149 aa long fungal derived toxin protein which targets large ribosomal subunite to block protein synthesis and inducing apoptosis) Theraputic actin of HPV cervical in women in early stage of dysplasia was molecularly positive for HPV 16, (anti HPV inhibits the entry of HPV 16 in hela cells )adverse survival of HCG expressing tumours. Tumours producing HCG are highly metabolising and aggressive . Hence poor prognosis in bladder cancer, pancreatic tumour and colonorectal cancer.
Remaining vigilant for prevention and early diagnosis can prevent and cure cancers. Let us all pledge, not to allow cancer to take away preventable deaths.
