Residents of Maharani Bagh, New Friends Colony & Friends Colony have been pressing hard to get their overhead power cables underground.
BSES has already started the process in Friends Colony West but there is no news about the other adjoining colonies. Residents of Maharani Bagh which is the adjoining colony next to Friends Colony West are wondering when will their turn come. Why have they heve not been considered first to get it when they have been pressing to get them underground for the past two decades.
Putting power cables require big budgets and that must be one of the reasons that the smaller colony Friends Colony West has been taken up first.
Laying power cables underground have obvious benefits. The ugly hanging wires would be taken off and the colony will look cleaner with a clear view of the sky.
The second benefit is that the over grown tree branches that constantly create problem of power cuts and short-circuiting especially during stormy days would not be there and there would no complains of constant power failure due to power distribution issues.
The third benefit is to our birds and animals. They are constantly in danger of getting electrocuted whenever they get entangled in these cables. Bats hanging dead from the wires and pigeons lying dead on the roads and walking tracks are constant reminders of this high-power cables running dangerously throughout in the colony.
RWAs and the bigwigs of the colony should use their clout and ensure that BSES doesn’t stop at Friends Colony West but cover the entire adjoining area.
