There is massive cutting of forest going in Siri Fort Forest New Delhi. This is the area adjoining Arun Jaitley Park in South Delhi. Large number of wood stacks are collected and then carried out of the forest. Almost the whole area has been cleaned out. When we asked the security staff, they denied having seen anything!! Ordinary citizens are pulled up for even one tree that they prune / cut. They are threatened that they will be fined heavily. Whereas here no questions asked?? This is an area used by hundreds of people every day for their morning and evening walks. It is surprising that it is happening in the heart of the city which is so polluted. Urgent steps should be taken to prevent further deforestation of the vital lungs of the city. Photos are attached to give you an idea as to the gravity of the situation.
