VV residents provide financial aid
A horrible incident took place on the evening of the 1st of February in the Basant Lok Market Vasant Vihar generally known as Priya Market. It comes as quite a shock as this market is in one of the safest neighborhoods of Delhi! A man had parked his car in the parking lot of the market. Vikash Thakur, a young fellow who had been working as a parking attendant for almost a year, requested the man to pay the required money before he left. He urged him as he would get into trouble and it would be deducted from his salary if not paid.
The car owner, presumably drunk, refused to pay, got out of the car with a cricket bat in hand, and started to beat him with it brutally! As we all know any hit to the head can be quite dangerous, he was struck with a bat so many times that his skull split open! My father, who happened to be present at the scene witnessed this gruesome incident with blood everywhere, managed to call the police and ambulance.
Vikas has suffered great injuries from this inhuman and grotesque assault and he is currently in a coma. His children came from his village, with his wife at the hospital as the doctors felt only a slim chance of him making it out alive.
A police complaint was filed: FIR no. 0076, and the accused was arrested from his house. He is said to be a PE teacher in primary school! If confirmed, this is not the example we want to put forward to young children to cost someone’s life for a mere 60 rupees!
To help the victim and his family, I attempted to raise finances. A Justice For Vikas Thakur campaign was launched. My target was Rs 5,00,000 but to my surprise we were able to collect 6,50,00. This money has already been given to the family for his medical support and day to day support for his children and family. Today it has been 1 month and 20 days since the incident. Vikash Thakur is still on the bed. He can not move . He now needs to be operated for brain hemorrhage. Government hospitals like AIIMS has played a critical role in saving Vikas health. But Vikash and the family is struggling . I hope through this article will generate awareness among people that every person has a right to live. I pray that Viskah recovers soons and his children gets the same opportunity like me.
