The new SHO of GK-I Police Station Bhanu Pratap has been meeting and interacting with RWA’s to understand firsthand the Security Concerns of residents. In one such meeting held over Brunch hosted by Sanjay Anand in E-Block, the Micro Level security needs were discussed. GK-I has diverse conditions, with each block having very different logistical situation.
With the Pan GK Night Vigil Programme where all the Eight Entry/Exit Points were Barricaded and manned by Guards, being discontinued due to non-participation of many RWA’s on account of paucity of Funds, as most residents do not pay membership subscription. Discontinuation of Night Vigil Barricading has already resulted in a few car thefts and increase in rash driving at night.
E- Block Office Bearers requested the SHO for resumption of Barricading the E & C Block and Hansraj Gupta Marg Tri-section, as this road saw maximum number of car thefts and rash driving. These Barricades were discontinued on the Launch of Night Vigil Programme a year ago, but now residents feel vulnerable on this road dividing C & E Blocks. SHO agreed to the suggestion of the RWA for resumption of Barricading at the Tri-section.
SHO was apprised that E-Block has a large number of houses with eight Entry / Exits and manning them 24 x 7 is impossible. At night only two gates are opened therefore the security is somewhat ensured, day time security is the real challenge. With increasing number of flats each year traffic too is a concern. SHO was open to the idea of closing 4-5 gates in consultation with neighbouring RWA’s.
Another security concern discussed was the menace of a Group of Banjara Women who boldly walk the streets threatening the Colony Guards and residents alike. These women live close to Nehru Place and Police thus far has been unable to relocate or put a fear in them. Other issues were discussed in a cordial environment over a hefty Brunch.
