Recently, I had the opportunity to lead a cyber safety workshop for children at the Gyandeep Growth Foundation. The experience was incredibly rewarding!
I began the session with questioning the children about the need for Internet safety. As I went on to explain the importance of navigating the digital world safely, I could sense the enthusiasm in the children as well as their parents – each eager to learn.
Recognizing the significance of cyber safety beyond the classroom, the foundation had invited parents also to join the workshop. Their attentiveness and eagerness to learn underscored a collective effort to safeguard their children online.
The curiosity of the audience was palpable – setting a positive tone for the session ahead! What struck me the most was their level of engagement. Despite varying levels of exposure to technology, they were actively participating. Not only did they ask relevant questions, but also shared their own experiences.
While I explained the five basic cyber safety rules in depth, I also emphasized the importance of open communication and understanding between children and parents. When it comes to technology, a child’s biggest fear is that if something goes amiss and the parents get to know, they will take away his/her personal device. To drive home the point, we did a little role reversal game which was fun-filled, yet working as an eye opener for both parents and children. Witnessing the interaction between the two generations was truly inspiring! It highlighted the impact of education and awareness in bridging the digital safety gap.
I extend my gratitude to Sumita Kakkar ji, the founder of Gyandeep Growth Foundation, for her vision and dedication to empowering these young minds. Her commitment to education was evident in every aspect of our interaction, and I was honored to be a part of their initiative.
Before bidding farewell, I thanked Ms. Aditi Chopra for connecting me to the foundation and making this session possible. I also took a moment to thank the other members and volunteers of Gyandeep Growth Foundation, who had helped organize the workshop. Their efforts are noteworthy in making a real difference in the community.
To sum it up, my experience with the community was very fulfilling. Such collaborative efforts in promoting digital safety are a need of the hour. By empowering young netizens and their families with knowledge and resources, we take a significant step towards creating a safer online environment for all.
