“Brahm Sutra.” A Book By Fellow Resident S Nirvair Singh

A Malibu Towne resident, S Nirvair Singh has authored a book titled “Brahm Sutra.”

It gives me pleasure to share a preview of this well written book in Panjabi on a subject not known to many. While retaining its Sanatan texture, I have added some interfaith hues to the presentation of the author’s work after his delving deep into our Scriptures.

Why deliberate on Brahm? The author’s short answer is that Brham is the Creator of  Brahmand or the Universe and is the primary source of Scriptures. Our scriptures such as Vedas were periodically simplified including in story format, may not be real, but aptly convey the underlying teaching.

These are 1) Shrutis which include Upanishads 2) Smritis which include Bhagvad Geeta and Sutras.

There are 555 Sutras. The original Bhram Sutra by Ved Vyas was reviewed by the Eighth Century saint Adi Sankaracharya. The Sutras deliberate on their respective themes and also provide a counter logic to the theme.

The knowledge of 4 Vedas, 6 Shastras among other texts in Sutras on topics like Praan, Atma, Param Atma, Karamfal, birth and rebirth etc are well covered by the author. For instance before the time óf Creation, there wasn’t any concept of Satya and thus asatya as well. There was no death and hence the thought of Amritya gets vague.
