Oriental Magpie Robin – The Melodious Singer
It is great to have our evening cup of tea in our garden where we see the birds returning home after a long day, and listening to their chirping is another perk that comes along with the beautiful sight.
On one such evening, the loud chirping of many birds was punctuated with a melodious song. Curiously, we started looking here and there for the singer and found an impressive male Oriental Magpie Robin perched comfortably on the top of the streetlight. After seeking our attention and giving an amazing performance, it flew away, but the song he sang stayed with us, and we used to look forward to his magical performance in the evening. To our delight, he would often oblige us with his stellar performance. The Oriental Magpie Robin is a common bird found in our parks and gardens. The male is black and white, whereas the female is greyish-brown and white.
CopsychusSaularis is the scientific name of the Oriental Magpie Robin. This medium-sized Robin, besides being a great singer, is also known to imitate the calls of other birds. These perching birds are found all across southern Asia, inhabit open woodlands, and enjoy proximity to human habitation. A little greenery and tall trees with insects to feed on are what is required to have this Robin performing around the corner. With the breeding season between April and June, there are a lot of chances that you might witness Robin’s great show, further adding to its fan following.
