The Navratras had recently passed when people tend to feed young girls as the ensemble of goddess Durga and present them with gifts. These young girls are very busy that day as they have to keep many appointments during the noon of Ashtami and Navmi. People go berserk and are on tenterhooks until they arrive at their venue. There was nothing new this time either but it was noticed later that the prashad the girls were given as the offering was lying on the roadside, without being eaten. Some residents were angry as they pointed out that some of the girls are Rohingya or Bangladeshis who are instructed to bring in the money or the goods offered at these events but not the prashad, so they did what they were told to do- throw it away on the roadside. Tradition is fine but the followers do not even see who to call and how to follow it properly? What satisfaction would it give to them to see their prashad lying like that on the roadside? Would Maa Durga be happy with that? People need to ponder.
